New Member Class
At Church of the Holy Apostles (COTHA), we get many questions about what it means to join our church and how it is done. So, we have developed an orientation class for everyone who is interested in becoming a member of COTHA. This includes people new to the Episcopal Church, as well as those transferring from other Episcopal congregations. Membership is also a prerequisite prior to baptism, confirmation or marriage.
The class is intended to answer everyone’s questions, to help everyone find a place in our church and to prepare everyone to be members. There is even a behind-the-scenes tour! Join us to discover all that God has planned for you through membership at COTHA. The next class will be Saturday, June 9 from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.Contact Trish Thompson to register.

Baptism
Baptism is the incorporation of a person into the community of believers. As such, it is administered at our main service (10:30 a.m.) on designated Sundays. In baptism, significant vows are made before God. To help people understand their commitment, pre-baptismal instruction is required for those being baptized. In the case of children, parents and godparents must attend this class. Due to the nature of baptism as a sacrament of incorporation, it is necessary to be a member of Church of the Holy Apostles to be baptized or to present a child for baptism. The baptism will be Sunday, May 27 Contact Trish Thompson to register.

The Bread, This Cup
Children 6 years and older will learn about Holy Communion while they are having fun. From the guided tour of the the church to the unique activities that explore the Eucharist service, children will thoroughly enjoy this class. A keepsake book is given to each child. We ask that a parent attend the classes to share this special landmark in their child's life. Classes meet for 5 weeks during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday School time.

Confirmation
Today, Confirmation is defined as a "mature public affirmation" of faith. (Book of Common Prayer, p.412.) For those baptized as infants or young children, it serves to confirm the vows that were made at the baptism. In years past, Confirmation was perceived as a rite of passage. It was performed as one entered adolescence and it was often required before one could receive Holy Communion. To participate in the sacrament, it is necessary to be a member of Church of the Holy Apostles. The Bishop must administer the sacrament and he traditionally visits in early December. Preparation classes begin in the fall. |
